Nikon has improved the AF system's sensitivity, giving the ~ point a detection range from -4 EV to +20EV at ISO 100 (compared with -2 to +19EV for the D4s). I do the Nikon Shuffle of locking focus on the subject and then recomposing the scene. The middle orientation probably has a lot to do with the ~ing sensor of cameras and people's tendency to lock focus and then just shoot.

There were times that would have been hard to do this, though, because I wanted to attempt to get a full body, half body and portrait of each model.
I decided to crop with the lens to prevent a lot of post processing. I tried my best to make the model the ~ ( fill up the frame) of everything. This is a good starting point, but can make for very boring, static images. The chances are, your early attempts had the bird positioned centrally in the frame, or with the bird's eye positioned under the ~ing point. Luckily, there's a way to prevent that: great b- roll footage. However, spending too much time focused on that one subject will lead to an unengaging film.
